A helical pier is a tool, not a diagnosis.

Helical piers are steel shafts with helix plates, rotated into the ground until the installation torque shows they have reached soil that can carry the load. In the right application they are excellent: verifiable during installation, workable in tight access, usable on structures far too light for driven systems, and loadable immediately.

They are also, routinely, sold to people who did not need them. Piers do nothing for a bowing wall, nothing for a rotted ledger, nothing for a patio that settled on its own sub-base, and nothing for cracking caused by a downspout emptying against the foundation.
