When it is not

Common questions
Helical or push piers — which is better?
Neither, categorically. Helical piers develop measurable capacity during installation and suit lighter loads and new construction. Push piers use the building's weight as reaction and often suit heavy masonry homes. A contractor who only ever recommends one of them is telling you about their inventory, not your structure.
Can both be used on the same house?
Yes, and it happens. A heavy main structure might take push piers while an attached porch or addition takes helicals, because the porch cannot supply enough reaction weight for a driven system.
Is piering permanent?
The steel is durable and the support is intended to be long-term, but 'permanent' is a marketing word. What matters is whether the pier reached competent bearing, whether the bracket transfers load properly, and whether the conditions that caused the movement were also addressed.
